Emergency Eye Services

Emergency eye services address serious issues like severe pain, sudden vision loss, corneal abrasions, eye infections, eye injuries, chemical burns, and foreign objects in the eye. While some minor issues like pink eye don’t always require emergency care, persistent symptoms or significant trauma warrant immediate medical attention. Outside of office hours, go to the nearest emergency room, and call a doctor’s office if it’s open. Basic first aid can include flushing with water for chemical exposure and protecting a damaged eye without pressure.

When to Seek Emergency Eye Services

Contact an eye care provider or go to the emergency room if you experience:

Severe eye pain, differences in pupil size, or a bulged eye

Sudden changes: in vision, double vision, or complete loss of vision.

Eye injuries: from trauma, a blow to the eye, or a foreign object.

Eye infections: with symptoms like pain, redness, or discharge.

Chemical burns or splashes .

Corneal abrasions: (scratches on the eye) that cause pain, light sensitivity, and tearing.

Flashes of light or increased “floaters”: in your vision, which can indicate retinal detachment.
