Eye Examinations
Riverbend Eyecare is committed to utilizing the
most current techniques and technologies in the assessment of your
eye health. We find it particularly important to apply our findings
to your overall systemic health. It is often the case that we are
the first to detect early signs or symptoms of serious medical problems
such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and high blood pressure.
Most patient’s look at yearly examinations from
the standpoint of whether or not they see clearly at distance and
near, or whether their glasses are in good shape. We feel the most
important reason for an eye exam is the evaluation of eye diseases,
which, like high blood pressure and stroke, are often present long
before they cause vision loss. Most patients know that if they don’t
see well they should come in for an exam, but a high number of patients
with eye disease don’t know anything is wrong until the disease
is in advanced stages. For this reason yearly exams are highly recommended.
You will probably be dilated at your examination.
We understand that you don’t like to be dilated. However, we treat
many glaucoma patients, diabetics and those with macular degeneration.
We also co-manage many cataract and LASIK surgeries with several
different surgeons. Dilation is simply required to detect and observe
eye diseases. If you have an exam without dilation, it’s like having
a physical examination without a blood test. Yes it is inconvenient,
but it is necessary in order to do a comprehensive examination.
